My “little brother” - You Did It!

It is truly remarkable to believe that my younger brother has been honored with induction into the esteemed Baseball Hall of Fame. Reflecting on our childhood days spent playing ball in the backyard, it is astonishing to think how far he has come. Born prematurely and always a small, skinny kid wearing glasses, Fred was granted permission by our mother, a dedicated school teacher, to pursue his dream of playing professional baseball at the young age of 17.

As of January 2023, there have been a total of 342 individuals elected to the Hall of Fame. Among these notable honorees are 241 former Major League Baseball players, 39 distinguished Negro League baseball players and executives, 23 accomplished managers, as well as 10 respected umpires and 36 influential pioneers, executives, and organizers. In this exclusive group stands our mother - she joins just 242 other mothers who have raised sons capable of achieving such an extraordinary feat and entering the elite ranks that comprise only 1% of all players in the history of the game.

With Mom and Dad watching from above, we know they take immense pride in their gift to the world through Fred's outstanding accomplishments. Although I still find it hard to fathom at times, it is an indescribable feeling knowing that my little brother has achieved such greatness. Perhaps it will take some time for everything to fully sink in. Nonetheless, one thing remains certain - it is an unparalleled sense of joy and pride that continues to resonate within me.
