Fentanyl (a synthetic opioid) is up to 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine. Over 150 (54,750 a year) people die every day from overdoses related to synthetic opioids like fentanyl. Drug overdose deaths involving fentanyl jumped 22% in 2021, the CDC said. Heroin overdoses, meanwhile, decreased by 32%.
Fentanyl and other synthetic opioids are the most common drugs involved in overdose deaths. Even in small doses, it can be deadly. Drugs may contain deadly levels of fentanyl, and you wouldn’t be able to see it, taste it, or smell it.
