I've encountered scenes like this in books, witnessed them unfold on the screen—a collective of tactically armed men storming into a home, seizing a citizen, and dragging them away into the night. This scenario, reminiscent of actions in a banana republic, seems out of place in a country like the United States, built on the principles of the rule of law.

And yet on December 4th, 2023

This jarring reality took place raises questions about the preservation of fundamental rights and the sanctity of the legal system within our supposedly democratic nation. It prompts a reflection on the fragility of liberties and the need for vigilant protection of the principles that define a just and lawful society.

Imagine this: a unit of tactical police officers battering-rammed my door, thrusting an assault rifle into my chest and subsequently hauling me away. In what seems like a surreal turn of events, they concocted false charges, subjected me to mental and physical torment, and held me in unlawful detention for an agonizing three days. Astonishingly, they denied me any access to legal counsel and the opportunity to stand before a judge to face the charges.

The alleged crime? Spray-painting a protest word on a public sidewalk, a petty offense that they escalated into a felony in an act of conspiracy. An alliance formed between a private business and police to shut up a whistle blower. You heard that right. They fabricated a harsher crime and delivered punitive measures to fit this crime. For 72 hours, I was illegally detained, in solitary confinement. At the end of this period, they forced me to leave, wheeling me out in a wheelchair as I continued to demand my rights and a lawyer.

When I resisted leaving jail without consulting an attorney, they resorted to threatening me with a taser. Consequently, I found myself cast into the cold winter night without a jacket, money, or any means to reach out for help. This ordeal underscores a disturbing abuse of power and a blatant disregard for basic human rights within a system that is supposed to uphold justice and fairness.
