The Answer to the Mystery

So… did Mary decide our salvation?

The Orthodox Church answers with reverence and precision:

God alone is the author of salvation.

And yet, He did not act without the free response of humanity.

In the Annunciation, we see something astonishing:

The Creator of all things stands at the door of His creation… and waits.

Not out of weakness—

But out of love.

Not out of necessity—

But out of divine humility.

And in that sacred moment, the Virgin Mary speaks on behalf of all humanity:

“Let it be to me according to Your word.”

This is more than a response.

It is the healing of Eve’s disobedience.

It is the opening of the path to the Incarnation.

It is the moment where heaven and earth are united.

Mary did not “cause” salvation—

But through her freedom, she received it… and offered it to the world.

And this is where the mystery becomes personal.

Because the same God who waited for her “yes”…

now waits for ours.

Will we respond with fear?

Or with faith?

Will we resist His will?

Or echo the words of the Theotokos?
