📍 Hidden History in Belfast: The Gallaher Steps
Most people walk past this without realising what they’re looking at…
Tucked inside Belfast City Cemetery are the Gallaher Steps—a stunning 19th-century structure built between 1867–1869. These aren’t just steps—they’re lined with vaults of some of Belfast’s most powerful industrial figures, including tobacco magnate Thomas Gallaher himself.
For decades, this was a symbol of wealth and status in Victorian Belfast. If you could afford a vault here, you’d truly “made it.”
Recently restored and reopened, the steps are now one of the most fascinating (and underrated) historic spots in the city.
🎥 Have you ever visited the Gallaher Steps?
