On 28 March 1982, shortly after leaving Sunday service with his two young sons, Inspector Duddy was shot dead by IRA gunmen in a shocking attack carried out as he sat in his car. The killing—witnessed by his children—became one of the most deeply felt tragedies of the early 1980s during the Northern Ireland conflict.
