*The La Mon bombing was a deadly attack carried out on 17 February 1978 at the La Mon Restaurant* near Belfast, in Northern Ireland. A unit of the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) planted an incendiary bomb during a dinner event attended by members of the Irish Collie Club.
The device exploded and ignited a fireball that rapidly engulfed the building. Twelve people were killed and dozens injured, many suffering severe burns. It became one of the most shocking atrocities of the conflict known as the Troubles, provoking widespread public outrage across communities in Northern Ireland and beyond.
The bombing intensified condemnation of violence from political leaders and the public, contributing to growing pressure for peace and dialogue in the years that followed. It remains a deeply painful and significant event in Northern Ireland’s modern history.
