In this tribute, we remember Royal Ulster Constabulary (RUC) Inspector William Henry Murtagh, and Sergeant James William Blakely who were brutally murdered by the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) during the Troubles.

On February 6, 1976, Inspector Murtagh and Sergeant James William Blakely were on a routine foot patrol in north Belfast when they were ambushed by IRA gunmen. Both officers were shot multiple times at point-blank range. Sgt Blakely died instantly, while Inspector Murtagh succumbed to his injuries the following day, February 7, at the age of 31.

This video honors the memory of Inspector Murtagh and Sergeant James William Blakely, plus all police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty during this tragic period in Northern Ireland's history.
