This video tells the story of the Love brothers of Scotch Street, Downpatrick, Co. Down, Northern Ireland — four sons of Robert James and Rachel Love who served in the First World War.
George Love – Sergeant, 2nd Royal Irish Rifles, died 30th September 1916, aged 34. Buried at Puchevillers British Cemetery, Somme, France.
John Love – Sergeant, 13th Royal Irish Rifles, died 1st July 1916, aged 30. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
William Love – Sergeant, 1st Royal Irish Rifles, died 10th May 1919, aged 31. Buried in Down Cathedral New Cemetery, Downpatrick. He served in India, France, and was medically discharged due to tuberculosis caused by the war.
Samuel Alexander Love – Sapper, 26th Field Company, Royal Engineers, died 8th April 1916, aged 23. Buried at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Loos, France.
Their names are remembered on a family memorial in Down Cathedral, Downpatrick.
