🚢 *THE DISCOVERY OF THE TITANIC WRECK
On 1 September 1985, the wreck of the RMS Titanic was finally discovered — more than 73 years after the great ship sank in the North Atlantic.
The wreck was located approximately 3,800 metres (12,500 feet) beneath the ocean, around 600 km off the coast of Newfoundland.
American oceanographer Robert Ballard and French explorer Jean-Louis Michel led the expedition that found the Titanic using advanced underwater technology.
The discovery revealed something remarkable: Titanic had broken into two sections as it sank, with the bow and stern lying hundreds of metres apart on the seabed.
After decades of mystery, the discovery finally allowed the world to see what remained of one of the most famous ships in history.
