🦌History:
“Did you know fried bread is enjoyed in many different ways and is often used as a base for other dishes, and it remains a popular comfort food worldwide.
Many cultures have enjoyed fried bread, a staple for centuries, cooked in hot oil or butter rather than baked in an oven.
The origins of fried bread are not entirely clear, but it is believed to have been invented by Native Americans. They would cook bread dough like a flat cake over an open fire. This bread was called “bannock” and was made from flour, water, and sometimes other ingredients such as nuts or berries.
Fried bread, known as “sopaipilla,” has become a staple food in Mexico and is often served as a dessert, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.
In the United Kingdom, fried bread has been famous as a breakfast item for centuries; it is made by frying slices of bread in oil or butter until golden brown. It is often served with a full English breakfast, which includes eggs, bacon, sausage, and baked beans.
In the United States, it is often served as a side dish with breakfast and is particularly popular in the southern states.

3/4 cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
2 tablespoons sucralose
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoon instant baker yeast
1/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1/4 cup almond milk
Water, ¾ to 1 cup
Oil for lining the cast iron skillet
🛷Your instructions:
1. Mix the dry ingredients, including flour, sugar, salt, and instant baker yeast, in a mixing bowl and blend them well.
2. Add milk and yogurt to the mixture and mix it well until it looks like crepe paper
3. Gradually add water, 2 tablespoons at a time, and mix it until all the flour is wet to form a soft dough.
4. Flour your work surface and knead the dough for 5 minutes until it becomes smooth.
5. Cover the dough with a damp towel, and sit the bowl in a water bath or warm place for 15 minutes.
6. Punch down, knead it again for 5 minutes, and cover and keep it aside for another 20 minutes.
🎁Time to divide and roll out your dough pieces:
1. Divide the dough into 12 pieces and make small balls from each piece. Flatten each ball to make a disk.
2. Dust your work surface and roll the disk to make a round circle according to the size of your ball.
3. Heat a cast iron skillet. Transfer a dough round to the medium-hot pan and cook until light brown spots appear on the lower side. Flip and cook on the other side.
4. Keep warm in a bowl covered with a damp towel. Cook them halfway on either side if you want to brown them in butter later. ★Butter process below.
5. Serve warm alone or with a meal.
🎠Butter process: Apply butter generously on the top side. Flip and cook until brown spots darken. Flip again and repeat with the butter process. Apply pressure with the spatula for bubbles to appear flat, round, and browned.
