As Nascar entered a new decade, Dale Earnhardt dominated the Nascar Cup Series. Legendary race team Bud Moore Engineering signed Morgan Shepherd to drive the team's #15 Motorcraft Ford starting in 1990. After a best season to this point in his career, scoring 2 poles, 0 wins, 5 top5s, and 13 top 10s, finishing 10th in final Cup Series point standings in 1982.

Shepherd was finally getting a chance to drive for an already proven Bud Moore Engineering. The 1990 Nascar Cup Series season was Shepherds chance to really show his talents behind the wheel of a Cup Series car. 1990 ended up being Morgan Shepherd's best season in the Cup Series.
