Casey Atwood is a former Nascar Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series driver who competed from 1996-2009. He was thought to be NASCAR'S next big star, making his Nascar debut at the age of 16 in the Craftsman Truck Series. In 1998, Atwood made an impression on the sport when he took an underfunded racecar to Nashville Speedway in the Xfinity Series qualifying on the pole and finishing 2nd. From there he would run two full-time seasons in the series in 1999 and 2000. That's when Atwood caught the eye of Ray Evernham. Evernham signed Casey to drive full-time in the Cup Series as a teammate to Bill Elliott, with the return of Dodge to the NASCAR Cup Series. After a lackluster season in 2001, he was demoted to an Evernham Motorsports satellite team, the #7 for Ultra Motorsports. Things did not improve. From there, Casey spent the remainder of the 2000's decade bouncing from team to team. At first touted as NASCAR'S next big star, he never realized that.
