NASCAR UNDERDOGS: Derrick Cope

Derrick Cope is a former Nascar Cup Series, Xfinity Series, Craftsman Truck Series and ARCA Menards West Series driver, who competed from 1981-2021. Cope's racing career spanned 40 years, making him the last driver to make at least one start in the past 5 decades, the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, 2010s, and 2020s. Also, Derrick is most remembered for his upset Daytona 500 victory in 1990.


Derrick drove for several different owners throughout his career, including Bob Whitecomb, Cale Yarborough, Bobby Allison, MB2 Motorsports, Bahari Racing, Jay Robinson and Rick Ware. making his final Cup Series start in the Daytona 500 in 2021.
