Dave Marcis is a former Nascar Cup Series driver who competed from 1968-2002. He is known as being the last independent driver in the Cup Series. As Marcis would spend the majority of his career as an owner/driver. Though in his prime years he spent time driving for some winning team owners such as Nord Krauskopf and Rod Osterlund. Also able to finish 2nd in Cup Series point standings in 1975, in fact the season that gave this video its title.
As Nascar would continue to grow he and his team would be eventually pushed towards the back half of the pack as his career drew on. Dave was good friends with Dale Earnhardt and would even serve as his test driver for his #3 GM Goodwrench Chevrolet through the 1990s. This setup helped Dave out through extra parts or even Earnhardt's back up car one or twice when Marcis crashed his only racecar.
Marcis made his final Nascar Cup Series start in the 2002 Daytona 500. He holds the record for the most Daytona 500's ever started by one driver consecutively, 32 and altogether 33. Always able to take his equipment and get the very most out of it. A 5 time winner in the Cup Series, he finished inside the top 10 in points 9 times.
