Travis Carter is a former Nascar Cup Series crew chief and owner. Winning the 1973 championship alongside Benny Parsons for owner L.G. DeWitt. After a successful decades long run as a crew chief, Carter actually purchased the raceteam that he spent the 1980s serving as crew chief for, Mach 1 Racing. Giving birth to Travis Carter Enterprises in 1990. Several notable drivers spent time driving for Carter throughout his time as a team owner from 1990-2003. Drivers such as Rick Mast, Jimmy Spencer, Darrell Waltrip, Todd Bodine and Joe Nemechek along with a few others.

This team had lots of potential but for one reason or another just could never reach their full potential. There definitely were flashes of greatness, Spencer finished 2nd a couple times in 2001 and Bodine scored 3 poles that same season. The best points finish for the team was 14th by Spencer in 1998.
