Jasper Motorsports is a former Nascar Cup Series race team that competed from 1971-2005, under several different monikers throughout its existence. Debuting in 1971 as D.K. Ulrich's #40 Ford as Ulrich Racing. Running through the mid '70s on a part time basis in 1976 Ulrich sold majority ownership of his team to J.R. Deletto for both the 1976 and '77 Cup Series seasons. Running full-time both seasons, finishing inside the top 15 in point standings each season. In 1978 Ulrich bought the team back from Deletto having a couple strong seasons before beginning to use a revolving door of drivers, serving as an opportunity ride for up and coming drivers.
Some of the drivers who made starts for Ulrich were Tim Richmond, Ricky Rudd, Sterling Marlin, Mark Martin, Stan Barrett, Jim Sauter and Jimmy Hensley among several others. The team even began to field 2 entries in 1981, switching back to a single entry in 1983. Using the #6 from 1982-1987, before changing to the #2 in 1988. The same season Ernie Irvan would take over the ride for his first two full time Nascar Cup Series seasons. Ulrich switched the name of the team to U.S. Racing starting in 1984.
At the conclusion of the 1989 season Irvan left the team. By the end of the 1990 season, Ted Musgrave started making starts for the team. Musgrave ran his rookie season in 1991 as they switched to the #55. Ulrich formed a partnership with Ray Dewitt starting in 1992, lasting through the 1993 season. They called this venture RaDiUs Motorsports. Ulrich and Dewitt dissolved their partnership, with Ulrich forming a new partnership with team sponsor Jasper executive Doug Bawel forming Jasper Motorsports.
Greg Sacks became the new driver of the #77 USAir Ford full-time in 1994. Ulrich sold his share of the the team to Bawel, he brought in Mark Wallace and Mark Hannah as part owners of Jasper Motorsports. Davy Jones, Bobby Hillin Jr, Robert Pressley and Dave Blaney all spent time behind the wheel of the #77 between 1995 and 2003 to minimal success.
Bawel sold a portion of the team to Roger Penske in 2004 forming Penske-Jasper Racing. Bringing in more sponsorship and switching to Dodge. Brendan Gaughan ran 2004 and Travis Kvapil in 2005 to again limited success. Overall in 902 Nascar Cup Series starts the team scored 2 poles, 0 wins, 6 top 5s and 56 top 10s, with a best points finish of 12th in 1979 by Ulrich.
