J.D. McDuffie was a former Nascar Cup Series, Xfinity Series and ARCA Series owner/driver who competed from 1963-1991. Always considered an independent, throughout his entire career McDuffie never had a top flight sponsor, nor did he ever have factory support of any kind.

The 1970s was the peak of his career. Winning his only career pole position in 1978 at Dover. He finished in the top 10 in final point standings twice, in 1971 and 1972. Come the turn of the decade, as the sport grew and competition grew. McDuffie began to DNQ the number growing with each passing season.
