Today we take a look at the Kobalt Tools 3.5" Speed Release Pocket Knife. This is a budget knife that is plain and serrated. It has an odd feature that there is a button to release the blade, then you need to flick it open. So it's not really an auto-assist like the package suggests. That button is essentially a lock to keep the blade closed, and then there is a separate liner lock to close the blade when it's in the open position. So it's a bit odd, but very safety oriented.
So the first knife I bought, it was much faster to manually open the knife by depressing on the button, and pulling the blade out. That's not speedy at all. If I tried the flick the blade opening while pressing the release button, it would take significant of force to get the blade to even partially open. So I do my due diligence, purchased another one, from the same store, same display, to open on camera. This way we could see how a new knife should work.
