Michael Brown (May 20, 1996 – August 9, 2014) was an 18-year-old African American man whose fatal shooting by Ferguson, Missouri, police officer Darren Wilson became a defining moment in U.S. race relations and catalyzed the modern Black Lives Matter movement .
