As the Israelites journeyed toward the Promised Land, their victories filled the surrounding nations with fear. King Balak of Moab believed that if Israel could be cursed, perhaps the nation could finally be defeated.
He summoned Balaam, a man known for his reputation as a diviner, and offered him wealth and honor in exchange for a curse.
But God had already spoken.
Israel was blessed.
Balaam was warned not to curse the people whom God had blessed. Yet the promise of riches drew him toward a dangerous confrontation.
On the road to Moab, the Angel of the Lord stood in Balaam's path with a drawn sword.
Three times Balaam's donkey saw the danger.
Three times the animal tried to avoid it.
And three times Balaam failed to understand.
Then the Lord opened the donkey's mouth.
What seemed like a stubborn animal had actually been protecting Balaam from a danger he could not see.
But the miracle was only the beginning.
King Balak repeatedly brought Balaam to different locations overlooking Israel, hoping that a curse would finally be pronounced.
Instead, God placed blessings in Balaam's mouth.
Again and again, the king's plan failed.
No amount of money, political power, or human determination could overturn what God had declared.
Then came a remarkable prophecy:
“A Star shall come out of Jacob, and a Scepter shall rise out of Israel.” — Numbers 24:17
Christians have long understood this prophecy as pointing toward Jesus Christ, the promised Messiah and King.
This cinematic biblical documentary explores the protection of Israel, the miracle of Balaam's speaking donkey, the failure of Balak's curses, the danger of greed, and the unchanging faithfulness of Almighty God.
It reminds us that God's warnings can be expressions of mercy, His purposes cannot be purchased, and His promises stand beyond the ambitions of earthly rulers.
