This video captures the first part of my nonstop 200 km (124 mi) adventure flight to Vicuna Peak via Merritt, with a short break back at the Merritt Airport. The first leg toward Vicuna Peak carried me over 125 km (85 mi) of calm air and steady flight. Ahead lay a 15 by 8 km (9 by 5 mi) sweep of sharp, Rocky Mountain–style peaks—an entire world I longed to explore. But far from home and above unforgiving ground, I held back. Beautiful, dangerous clouds drifted close, hinting at how quickly the day could turn. Even the terrain rising from Merritt along the Coldwater River felt alive beneath me. My comfort zone moved several notches past what I expected of myself.
