Doug Smith discusses fear as a motivator for criminal behavior, the courage to be honest, and the impact of perception.

Right. Right. But he, he was Doug Smiths claiming that fear is what, what kept him a criminal because he was afraid to be tr- afraid to be honest. Now your whole premise is using that honesty about your past a- as a authen- authenticity piece. Doug Smith is asked for advice for people scared of their past being discovered, acknowledging the experience.

What, you got anything for people who might be in that position thinking, "I hear what he's saying, but I'm scared to death of them finding out about my past." Oh, absolutely. I don't want to diminish his experience.

Doug Smith acknowledges and validates the experiences of those with criminal records, sharing past job search struggles, and highlighting improvements in employer attitudes.

It does. I- It's okay. It's okay. You can diminish it. It's okay here. Well, I've got to I mean, but I get it. I w- I went to job fairs, like, and I talked to like 98% of the employers that I talked to when I told them about my criminal record, they were not willing to even consider my application. But that was in 2014 and we've been, like, I'm part of a whole movement of people with criminal records who have been pushing really hard and, more and more employers are willing to consider, uh, a criminal record and more and more employers are willing to consider that honesty. Listen, I have a criminal history, here's what I've done. And more and more employers are willing to hear that.Join this channel to get access to perks:
