This video summarizes the change in voting age, the power of protest, the importance of clear messaging, and an encounter with Trump supporters.

Congress changed the voting age from 21 to 18.
So, we have to realize that even when we changed the voting age, in- in get- get the, um, Congress to change the voting age from 21 to 18, those were people who were 21 and older- Right. who changed that- Yeah.

18-year-olds persuaded people to see the point through protest, advocating for the right to vote.
to back down to 18. It wasn't the 18-year-olds who did it. So that's why I'm saying there are ways in which we can persuade through protest to get people to see, and what was the- the phrase back then? If we're- if we're old enough to- to fight, we're old enough to vote. Beyond that's when they said we- if you're gonna be, um, drafting people at 18, they should be able to vote at 18.
[89:24-89:43]
Clear messaging is crucial in protests to unite people and convey the cause effectively.
Yeah. And so you've got to come up with the messaging that can bring people together to understand, and right now, the messaging is not very good. We don't- we don't have any clear- messaging. People, "I'm mad." You know, and just like you said, they go out on the weekends, you have these signs that sound very nice, you know, cute, whatever, funny, but then what are they all saying?

The speaker shares an encounter in Dallas with conservative Christian women who support Donald Trump and seek to understand the reasons behind protests.
And I- I was in Dallas, um, 2 weeks ago, and I was talking, I was doing a book talk because I'm on a book tour for our Protest History of the United States, and- and I wa- and 2 white women came up to me in Dallas, and said, "We're Christian, conservative Christian women," that's what they said to me, "who support Donald Trump, and we don't understand why everybody is protesting. But we decided to come out here from the suburbs, you know, to hear you, because we want to understand, what are they so mad about?" So, yes. And so- that's what you say, remember, the MAGA people are not thinking there's a problem, so then- how do you the message over that there's a problem to people like that, who are actually willing to kind of hear what the problem is, then- voice the message?
