Dr. Steve Drabek has dedicated over forty years to medicine, specializing in Hospice and Palliative care with a special interest in chronic pain management in Oklahoma. After surviving esophageal cancer at age of thirty and experiencing chronic pain himself since 1996, he adapted his unique approach to patient care that he created the word in recognition as a "comfortologist" - a physician who prioritizes compassionate, whole-person treatment. Board-certified in both Family Medicine and Hospice/Palliative Medicine, Dr. Drabek received multiple accolades, including the Friend of Nursing Award from the Oklahoma Nurses Association. His community Chamber of Commerce in 2005 honored him as a “Humanitarian” an award named after an early community physician. Also recognized as the 2007 Family Physician of the Year by the Oklahoma Academy of Family Physicians. He was named “Preceptor of the Year” 1998 by the Oklahoma Academy of Physician Assistants nominated by the Physician Assistant Student Class. His early work "The Incredible Smile" was published in the Oklahoma State Medical Association Journal in 1984, marking the beginning of his advocacy for better end-of-life care. Though semi-retired since 2023, he remains active in hospice and palliative medicine. Dr. Drabek lives in Yukon, Oklahoma with his wife Karen, where he continues to champion empathetic healthcare through his writing and medical practice.
